Drawbacks because of Overreliance on AI
Although there is a large upside in integrating artificial intelligence into the workplace and other industries, just like everything, there are some drawbacks. Some of these downsides include leaving people without a source of income if laid off, brain rot and over reliance on technology in business and education. We must find ways to integrate with the technology where these things can be avoided, but the question is can they be fully avoided.
Brain Rot is a major topic in the new era with kids being stuck in front of screens at such a young age. It finds out that you can experience these same problems with an over reliance on AI. In an article by the Forbes writer Elliot, with an over reliance on AI, “You are losing the capacity to think. Step by step, your mind is being eroded. There is not much you can do once your brain-rot has reached a deeper threshold.” Based on this information AI is capable of giving us our full potential as humans and our brain capacity.
This article also takes a deeper dive on what is actually happening to our brains when we continue to use this technology time and time again. “ Over-reliance on generative AI. Your mind becomes overly reliant on generative AI and inevitably causes brain decay such that your ability to think on your own reaches a near-zero point of no return.
Overfilling by generative AI. Your mind is filled up by generative AI with all manner of menial mental garbage, turning your brain into pure mush, and precluding you from forming any more coherent thoughts.”
Based on this information we continue to see the idea that AI can be a brain rotting technology that is taking the humans capability to think away. An over reliance on AI can lead to brain decay and take you away from being able to form coherent thoughts any way.
Along with this information my interviewees who have been involved in this process have all shared similar thoughts on the topic. The young demographic I Interviewed was Pharmaceutical Assistant Brendan McCabe, A current worker for ALKU, and a 2 year alumni of Merrimack College. He said that he can remember times in school where his friends developed an over reliance on AI where they were not able to do any work without it. It became attached to them and the way they did their work. My other Interviewee Tim Moynihan expressed that an over reliance on AI is never good in Business nor Educational environments as it defeats purpose.
