Tech-Layoffs + AI Displacment of Jobs
As of late there has more and more signs of AI replacing humans in the workplace based on data that has been released to the general public and through various different interviewees. My initial findings for AI causing job displacement was back in November of 2024 when a article had been released on a burner freelancing website about a tech layoff that had taken place at dell (Windows) and the impact that it had on the company as a whole. Workers for the company that were heavily involved with data analysis and finical sectors like marketing were released with no regard. Over 12, 500 employees, 10% of the entire organizations workforce, was laid off and replaced with robot machinery. A plan was also put in place to continue with this process for every 6 months to come. I was stunned by the finding and it became a huge piece of research.
It wasn’t until March of 2025 when another article was released by Forbes magazine and it showed an even larger magnitude of the job displacement that is currently taking place in various different industries and in no small way. The technology has completely disrupted our common enterprise workflows. Dell has been weeding out employees since the beginning of 2023 and they have knocked out over 21,000 employees in 2 years.
Other important organizations and industries are starting to all dip their feet into the realm of AI and this unfortunately is going to become more common in years to come. As of early February in 2025, Workday has laid off over 1,750 employees, Salesforce cut 1000 jobs, Intel releases over 15,000 employees and Electronic Arts Gaming laid off about another 1,000 jobs. This trend is trajecting upward at an increasingly larger rate month by month and it is important to know more about the technology and why companies are switching to the unknown when human systems have been accomplished it for decades upon decades.
